Coronavirus COVID-19

COVID19 Pandemic Response

The pandemic impacted the whole world. Therefore our support had to be one that was home and away.

The COVID-19 global pandemic is unprecedented and the likes of which the world has never seen before in modern times.

In the time of uncertainties the people who suffer the most are always the vulnerable, though Lonely Orphans focuses its priorities to the orphans and vulnerable around the world.

The pandemic forced us to look closer to home with the support that was needed. COVID-19 affected developed countries like the US and the UK to unanticipated degrees, with enforced strict lockdowns for over a year affecting people’s livelihoods and mental health along with hindrance to their day to day activities. Our organisation decided to actively give back home, locally with domestic projects since the beginning of the pandemic.

While we naturally incorporated COVID-19 deliverables in our ongoing responsibility and duty to our existing projects which continued despite lockdown and office closures in the UK, our base country. We made some commitments in the UK as part of our COVID response:

Last year we supported a coalition of app developers and coders, who developed an app for requests of emergency food packs for those who were isolating or vulnerable during the Lockdown. As well as providing volunteer led delivery drivers, and arranging general logistics for the project. With the high demand and huge success of this campaign we are evaluating and planning to continue the project.

All our projects abroad added features that helped bolster the existing support we provided with the Pandemic in mind. This included our efforts among the Rohingya Refugees included a COVID-19 awareness program as well as posters and leafleting of safety advice which were globally promoted, and our projects in Indonesia, supported our team there with the ongoing ambulance program we run in the region of Jogjyakarta, Indonesia.

We are in the planning stages for some of the issues arising from other impacts from the pandemic and lockdown along with preparation for life after the COVID-19. Our main focus will be to try and focus on the mental well-being of those in the UK who have been affected severely by the lockdown, especially for the elderly and those who are considered lonely. We recognised that these impacts were something that we may be facing, especially in the UK at an unseen level. For this we are looking to support local and community initiatives that provide support like befriending, phone and hotline services for someone to chat to, as well as the aim to support food banks and other subsidies.

Support Lonely Orphans today. Together, we’re saving lives. Together, we’re one family.
